DIABETES INTRODUCTION : Diabetes is a disease that occurs when the body’s blood glucose , also called blood sugar, is too high . Glucose is your main source of energy and comes from the food you eat . Insulin, a hormone secreted by the pancreas , helps glucose from food get into your systemic regulation which will be used for energy. Diabetes occurs when there is an inability in the body to produce insulin. In most cases, the body doesn’t secrete enough insulin which is required by the body. Glucose then stays in your blood and doesn’t reach your cells. Then glucose starts accumulating in the cell, which produces toxic effects. This untreated high blood sugar from diabetes can damage our nerves, eyes, kidneys , and other organs . But studying diabetes and taking steps to prevent or manage it can help us protect our health.
